The contest for the rehabilitation of the Convent of Santa María de los Reyes, Seville, has been announced. From the studio we would like to congratulate the winners María González García, Juan José López de la Cruz, Francisco Marqués Vilaplana and Rosalino Daza Fernández.
Despite the fact that our proposal was not selected, we remain convinced that, in this case, the most appropriate option would have been to demolish the unprotected remains of the old novitiate. This decision would have allowed for the creation of larger-scale public spaces with a higher urban quality.
The jury, however, was categorical on this point, rejecting those proposals that did not contemplate the conservation of these remains, despite the fact that they did not have any type of heritage protection. We respect this decision, although we disagree with its criteria, as we consider that it has excessively conditioned the development of the project and limited the possibilities for intervention.
