Cruz y Ortiz Arquitectos has been selected to carry out the extension and renovation of the Reina Sofía School of Music in Madrid. This project includes the integration of two adjacent buildings into a single venue, with a design that preserves the main entrance and optimizes the functionality of the spaces.
Key interventions include a new atrium that unifies the architectural ensemble and provides an open and bright space, a central rehearsal hall with adaptable solar control, and a cafeteria designed to promote social interaction and the exchange of experiences between students and teachers.
The Reina Sofía School of Music, founded in Madrid by Paloma O’Shea in 1991 is named after its Honorary President, Queen Sofía. It’s an initiative of the Albéniz Foundation with the dual aim of helping young people and culture.
