In 2001 Cruz y Ortiz Arquitectos won the competition for the rehabilitation, adaptation and extension of the new Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. The work, which was completed in 2013, is considered one of the most complex rehabilitation of a public space. The impact of the opening of the museum has meant an increase of 310 million euros to the Dutch economy reaching 2.5 million visitors in 2015.
