The president of the Andalusian Regional Government, Juanma Moreno, has visited La Cartuja Stadium following its recent refurbishment, designed by Cruz y Ortiz Arquitectos. The works, which increased its capacity to more than 70,000 spectators by removing the athletics track and adding 12,000 new seats, consolidate the venue as the third largest in Spain.
La Cartuja will host the Copa del Rey final between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona this Saturday and will serve as the temporary home of Real Betis during the renovation of the Benito Villamarín stadium. It will also be one of the venues for the 2030 World Cup.
Juanma Moreno announced that there are still some phases to be completed, including improvements to access and the cladding of the façade, with the aim of ensuring that the stadium is fully prepared for the World Cup.
