Mountain Shelter Sierra de Huelva, Huelva

PROJECT REPORT

The land on which the building sits is within the Sierra Norte Natural Park, in the province of Huelva, so the conditions for any building intervention are very restrictive, almost limited to the renovation of the existing. The existence of the remains of a herd of cattle was used to carry out a remodeling and extension of the same in order to situate a house. The house already had a gable roof of approximately 8 x 8 meters and an annex patio of similar dimensions. All this made with local stone masonry, maintaining the volume already available and placing a roof that starts on a slope to later continue almost horizontal, only 2% inclination. It is possible to lodge within this space a program of two bedrooms, its bathrooms and a large living room. An annexed building has been made separately from the previously existing volume by a porch. Both this and the annexed building share with the main building the same roof of slight inclination and the masonry of the exterior walls. The interior of the house, in which the stone disappears completely, contrasts with the image of vernacular architecture that has remained outside. The separation between the stone building and the flat roof creates a high and running window of about 50 cms high that provides a unique aspect to the large room that serves as a living area. The porch is oriented looking for the magnificent views of the Ribera de Huelva that surrounds the property. Inside and through both the two large windows open on the walls and the long, narrow and high opening, the exterior landscape is present, possibly the main protagonist of this house.
