Offices for Andalusian Public Works and Transport Department, Seville

PROJECT REPORT

The building’s location is determined by its position between two urban elements. On one hand, the Glorieta de la Estación (Station Roundabout), which has lost part of its initial relevance, and on the other hand new Juan de Mata Carriazo Street that has acquired great importance as a traffic urban route.

The proposal maintains an equilibrium between the adjacent urban spaces, enlarging the pavement of the avenue to create a new square, and bringing a continuity to the two areas. The proposed passage joins the two squares and solves any doubt about which to use to access the building.

The new curves allow the existing square to become a rule rather than an exception, juxtaposing two systems in the floor layout: one orthogonal and the other curvilinear. The first is linked to the modular system of the offices and the second to the entrance and the union of the two squares, at the same time providing more unique working spaces.

In the proposal, the gallery is illuminated by a series of skylights, which will allow light to enter both horizontally and vertically, ensuring the proper illumination of working spaces and the gallery, representing an entrance hall on the ground floor.

The proposed car park and the nursery in the attic could function independently of the rest of the building, staying outside the security gate.
