Offices for Regional Goverment of Andalusia in the historical city center, Seville

PROJECT REPORT

The present project consists of the renovation and adaptation of two houses in the old center of Seville (San Jose 13 Street and Levies 3 Street) for new offices of the Regional Secretariat of Culture. The house on San Jose 13 Street is a two-storey eighteenth-century building on an approximately 1,700 m2 lot. In spite of the irregularities of the lot, the floor plan is laid out on an axis that traverses both the first and main courtyards, the big room in the rear and the archway over the garden. The house’s main spaces are organized around this axis, these rooms being encharged with absorbing the perimeter’s irregularities.

From the previously mentioned arcade, there is a small garden and, enclosing this, the new annex that substitutes a demolished U-shaped building of minor architectural merit than the rest of the house.

The house on Levies 3 Street is a two-storey building, but of reduced size, approximately 175 m2 per floor. Apart from the restauration and renovation of the existing buildings to accommodate the new use, our interest was twofold, centering on the small four-storey annex located in the rear, opening on to the garden, and, of course, on the contiguity and formal relationships established with the existing buildings.
