Building on a compact infrastructure such as the bus depot, where bus traffic produces extremely rigid ground, leads us to our first decision: design a low wide building that distributes its weight evenly over the lower structure. A low building is a good solution for scholarly facilities, as having two floors above ground level creates double the height required for the arena.
All these conditions have generated a really efficient building, a project aiming to be realistic and exact. The required homogeneous structure plus a dualistic programme: double sports hall and a double school have created a building symmetrical along its north-south axis.
Thus, the project is laid out over two extensive floors that solve the excessive wideness with a central area of patios and skylights. This way, it provides zenith light to the arena, both floors are connected and the central part of the building is lit. On the east-west axis a large porch appears where the independent entrances to the sport halls and the schools would be placed. The staff of VZO will enter from the south end of the building and from there they can reach the bus depot.
