On 24 September, Antonio Cruz will take part in the third edition of the ‘Arquitectura Música · Músicxs Arquitectxs’ cycle at the Roca Madrid Gallery. This event, sponsored by Roca and Figueras Seating, and organised by Félix Arranz, will explore the design of grandstands in three emblematic Spanish stadiums.
Antonio Cruz will present the transformation of the Civitas Metropolitano Stadium, formerly known as La Peineta, highlighting how the grandstands were key to adapting the stadium to new requirements, along with contributions from Estudio Lamela and Batlleiroig, who will talk about the Santiago Bernabéu and Johan Cruyff stadiums, respectively.
The meeting will conclude with a musical recital by architects and musicians Berta Miranda and Maike Hübner, fusing music and architecture.

From 2 to 4 September, as part of the Santander Summer Courses organised by the Menéndez Pelayo International University (UIMP) and sponsored by the Banco Santander Foundation, the meeting ‘Interventions on
existing buildings’ will be held. This event is directed by Antonio Ortiz (Cruz y Ortiz Arquitectos) with the participation of renowned architects such as Rafael Moneo, David Chipperfield and Kees Kaan.
The meeting is presented as a platform for discussion and reflection on the various ways in which contemporary architects approach the intervention in existing buildings, an area of great relevance in
today’s architecture.
On the occasion of this event, El Diario Montañés has published an article highlighting some of Antonio Ortiz’s reflections on the evolution, importance and complexity of intervening in historic buildings to adapt them to contemporary needs.

Antonio Ortiz, (Cruz y Ortiz Arquitectos) will be leading the course at the Menéndez Pelayo International University: ‘Interventions on existing buildings’. This event, supported by the Banco Santander Foundation, will be attended by recognised architects such as Rafael Moneo, David Chipperfield and Kees Kaan.
The course focuses on the valuation and rehabilitation of heritage buildings. Topics such as strict restoration, deep alterations and intervention on lower level buildings will be addressed. Participants will explore how and to what extent these buildings can be modified, considering the balance between old and new, under the guidance of leading architects and experts in the field.

Next 20th of April at 12 pm, Antonio Cruz will give a lecture at the Toledo School of Architecture (UCLM).
Under the title: “about the residence”, Antonio Cruz will present some of the most significant housing projects of our studio, among others: a housing complex in Maastricht and in Holland Park, Amsterdam (the Netherlands), or a shelter in Saw, Huelva. (Spain)

On 7 April, Antonio Ortiz will give a lecture at the ENSAPVS (Paris) on our office’s key projects.

Some of those selected works are the renovation of the Rijksmuseum (Amsterdam), Atlético de Madrid stadium, offices on historical building for Banco de Santander (Santander) and Basel railway station.

The lecture will be held in French and will be chaired by Anna Maria Bordas.

The Ecole Nationale d’Architecture de Paris-Val de Seine (ENSAPVS) is a public educational institution.

 

The College of Architects these days celebrates its week of cultural activities with an intense program of events in which it also seeks to open itself to Granada citizens.

Among the activities carried out for members but open to the general public, the Assembly Hall of the Official College of Architects will host this afternoon the conference of one of the reference names of the subject in this country: Antonio Cruz, awarded with García de Paredes New Construction Architecture Award for the Learning Center of the Campus of Health Sciences of the UGR university.

The architect explains that he will focus on his work at the Granada Health Campus. He will talk about the award-winning Learning Center building – which houses among others the paraninfo, the library, the study hall or the canteen – but he will also speak about his projects for the Faculty of Medicine and theMasterplan of the entire campus.

Although in Granada it has other reference buildings, such as the administrative building of the Junta de Andalucía in Almanjáyar, it will also add “some other work done by the study in relation to the university issue” outside this province.

In that sense, he advances that will show the Faculty of Sciences of Education in Seville. Also a contest won in Lugano, Switzerland, to make a university campus in the vicinity of the train station. And “although it does not directly have a university use but a cultural one, it will also talk about the Elena Infanta Library in Seville.”
The act, which will proceed to read the manifesto Architecture … housing for all, will also be attended by Luis Alberto Martínez Cañas, dean of the Official College of Architects of Granada; Noemí Sanchís Morales, president of the Andalusian Council of Official Associations of Architects; and Alicia Martínez Martín, Secretary General of Housing of the Junta de Andalucía.

Banco Santander: Santander begins the urban development procedures for the Pereda and Hernán Cortés transformation project. Banco Santander executive chairman, Ana Botín, this morning presented the project for transforming the bank’s two most iconic buildings in the capital city of Cantabria: the building on Paseo de Pereda, which is the bank headquarters, and the building on Calle Hernán Cortés, to provide the city with modern spaces for culture, technology and entrepreneurship. Gema Igual, mayor of Santander, and Miguel Ángel Revilla, president of the region, also spoke during the event, along with David Chipperfield, Antonio Cruz and Antonio Ortiz, the architects responsible for remodelling the buildings.

The transformation work on the building on Calle Hernán Cortés will be done by Antonio Cruz and Antonio Ortiz. Their architecture firm was responsible for the restoration of the Rijksmuseum in the Netherlands, the railway stations in Basel and Seville and the design of the Wanda Metropolitan Stadium in Madrid.
