Metalocus magazine has published an extensive photographic report about the new regional headquarters of Banco Santander in Cantabria, a refurbishment project carried out by our studio in the historic headquarters of the Banco Mercantil in Santander.
The publication highlights the project’s verticality, structural clarity and transparency, with a central courtyard that offers a complete view of the building.
The space is distributed over three floors including a multifunctional space on the roof for events, offering a contemporary and innovating solution for the working area.

Inaugural event of the course ‘Interventions on existing buildings’, which took place in the building
refurbished by Cruz y Ortiz of the Banco Santander (former Mercantil). This three-day forum, sponsored by the Banco Santander Foundation and directed by the architect Antonio Ortiz, focuses on the debate on architecture,
specifically on interventions and restorations of existing buildings.
The forum is developed around the challenges and sensitivities involved in these interventions, especially with the support of local examples such as the rehabilitation of the building in Hernán Cortés and the future intervention in Faro Santander, directed by the architect David Chipperfield.
Participants in this course include leading architectural figures such as Rafael Moneo, Kees Kaan and other architects. After the inauguration, there was a guided tour of the building refurbished by Cruz y Ortiz Arquitectos, and it was announced that Ana Botín, president of Banco Santander, will close the
event at the Palacio de La Magdalena.

On July 28, Banco Santander inaugurated its new territorial headquarters in Cantabria, in the old Banco Mercantil building, a historic building from 1903 that has undergone comprehensive rehabilitation by our firm.

Countdown to the reopening of the offices of Banco Santander, Banesto’s former headquarters.
The opening to the public of this building dating from 1902 is scheduled for the beginning of  summer.The former Banesto offices, located at Calle Hernán Cortés, 11, in the city of Santander, have undergone a complete transformation by our studio, providing them with a more unifying use around its central courtyard. 
At the moment, the external scaffolding of the “Mercantil” has already been removed and the restoration of its functional, decorative and architectural elements can be seen on its more than 2,000 meters of façade.
The final completion is scheduled for the beginning of summer.

The project by Cruz y Ortiz Arquitectos, with the collaboration of Ulargui Arquitectos, was chosen from among the 29 proposals submitted. The jury valued the compositional and formal quality of the proposal for its rotundity and volumetric representativeness, which transmits a unitary image of an institutional nature. It considers the elliptical layout within the triangular shape of the plot to be very appropriate, as well as the exterior spaces that contribute to generating a cohesive urban fabric, making it a very coherent proposal as a whole.

It considers the design of the spaces proposed for office use to be very appropriate, offering a high degree of flexibility and spatial optimisation.The configuration of the access to the site and to the different departments, as well as the location of the programme with the most singular spatial requirements outside the main building, stand out. The proposal has also been considered appropriate in terms of bioclimatic and sustainability criteria, and its analysis and degree of detail.

The new building, promoted by the Ministry of Finance and located in Calle Padre Damián, will have 30,000 m2 of office space above ground and a 3-storey basement of 45,000 m2.

Banco Santander: Santander begins the urban development procedures for the Pereda and Hernán Cortés transformation project. Banco Santander executive chairman, Ana Botín, this morning presented the project for transforming the bank’s two most iconic buildings in the capital city of Cantabria: the building on Paseo de Pereda, which is the bank headquarters, and the building on Calle Hernán Cortés, to provide the city with modern spaces for culture, technology and entrepreneurship. Gema Igual, mayor of Santander, and Miguel Ángel Revilla, president of the region, also spoke during the event, along with David Chipperfield, Antonio Cruz and Antonio Ortiz, the architects responsible for remodelling the buildings.

The transformation work on the building on Calle Hernán Cortés will be done by Antonio Cruz and Antonio Ortiz. Their architecture firm was responsible for the restoration of the Rijksmuseum in the Netherlands, the railway stations in Basel and Seville and the design of the Wanda Metropolitan Stadium in Madrid.

Diario de Sevilla: The building of Cruz y Ortiz Arquitectos that currently houses the offices of the Ministry of Development, Infrastructure and Territory Planning, on Pablo Picasso Street in Seville, has been awarded as an office building at the XIV Spanish Architecture Biennial and Urbanism.

Offices for Ministry of Economy in Almanjáyar (second phase), Granada.

The building, on the right on the first photo, several years later begins its countdown to completion. Now working on installations and masonry. We will show you how these interior spaces are transformed.

The Minister of Finance and Public Administration, María Jesús Montero, met in Granada with the technical committee to monitor the works being developed for the internal adjustment of the administrative building Almanjáyar 2, one of the most unique projects of the Board to unify administrative offices in a single building in order to facilitate and expedite the provision of services to the citizen.
